In October 2013, the Sumter County Library will host The Big Read. For this event, we have selected "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck to be read by the Sumter community.
The Sumter County Library has partnered with Sumter County Adult Education, the Sumter Opera House, the Shepherd's Center, local school districts and other important organizations to bring the joy and importance of reading to Sumter County.
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
