So Much More Than Books..
We still have a wide variety of print books and media, e-books, and audiobooks for all ages, of course, but today our services go far beyond books. We have computers for our patrons to use. Our reference librarians can assist you in creating a document, pulling up a job application, or even proctor an online exam.
If literature is your passion, you should join the Wesmark Library’s Monthly Book Club. Or you could relax and enjoy while watching a classic movie with us. There are plenty of events for any lover of the arts with the Friends of the Library Author event, guest speaker programs, and even a Local Author’s Fair.
The Library has a wealth of great activities for children and youth.
With programs that range from crafting to computer coding, from watching a movie to reading to a therapy dog, we have a little something for everyone. Wesmark Library hosts a weekly Storytime, and the Main Library partners with local HeadStart and daycare programs to bring in hundreds of children for Storytime every month.
Our Teen Advisory Board is also active all year long, with opportunities for teens to volunteer and plan future programs.
The Summer Reading Challenge, sponsored by the Friends of the Sumter County Library, is extremely popular. We offer prizes to help motivate thousands of children to keep reading over the summer as well as hosting programs nearly every day to keep kids active, social and learning. The Summer Reading Challenge also hosts fantastic performances that are not to be missed.
The library out in the community . . .
The Children’s Department schedules outreach to infants and toddlers such as the Optimist Club’s Reading in the Park event, Prisma Tuomey’s SafeKids event, countless career days and area EXPOs. Look for us out and about reading with our special friend, Pete the Cat, at a school literacy night or at the annual Art in the Park event in the fall.
